Hemp Care Guide

Hemp is easy to care for, but it responds best to a little patience.

The fabric is naturally strong, and it becomes softer with washing and wear. Good care is less about doing something special and more about avoiding anything too harsh.

Wash gently

Wash hemp clothing with similar colours in cool or lukewarm water. A gentle cycle is usually enough for everyday care.

Use a mild detergent and avoid bleach. Strong chemicals can weaken natural fibres and change the surface of the fabric over time.

If the piece is heavily textured or loosely woven, washing it inside out can help protect the surface.

Dry with care

Air drying is the best choice for hemp. Hang the garment or lay it flat, then let it dry naturally away from very strong direct sun.

A tumble dryer can make natural fibres feel tighter and may increase shrinkage, especially at high heat. If you use one, choose a low setting and remove the piece while it is still slightly damp.

Let wrinkles belong

Hemp wrinkles, especially after washing. This is part of its character rather than a flaw.

For a smoother look, steam the garment or iron it while slightly damp. For a more relaxed look, let the creases settle naturally as you wear it.

How hemp changes over time

New hemp can feel crisp. After repeated washing, the fibres relax and the fabric becomes softer against the skin.

This gradual change is one reason hemp is worth keeping. The piece does not have to remain new to remain beautiful. It becomes easier, more familiar and more personal.

Store simply

Make sure hemp pieces are completely dry before storing them. Fold heavier garments instead of hanging them for long periods, especially if the fabric has weight.

With simple care, hemp can stay in your wardrobe for years: breathable, textured and quietly softened by everyday use.
