How to Properly Care  Silk

Hand Wash or Machine Wash?

Hand Washing is Recommended

To start, immerse the silk in water with a temperature not exceeding 30°C. Add a detergent specifically formulated for silk and allow it to soak for 3-5 minutes. Treat the silk with care, gently pressing or rinsing it without vigorous rubbing. Following the wash, avoid wringing the fabric forcefully; instead, delicately absorb excess moisture using a towel. Finally, allow the silk to air dry in a cool, well-ventilated space.

Machine Washing is Possible but
Not Recommended

When opting for machine washing, always place silk items inside a silk laundry bag. Add silk detergent to the water and select a specialized silk cleaning cycle. Afterward, place the items in a cool and well-ventilated area for drying. (Note that machine washing may potentially damage protein fibers and reduce the lifespan of silk.)

What to Avoid

Refrain from using alkaline detergents such as regular soap or laundry detergent, as they can harm silk fibers. Frequent silk wearers may benefit from investing in specialized silk detergent.

Do not soak silk for prolonged periods, as it may lead to fading or yellowing.

During the drying process, avoid exposing silk to direct, strong sunlight, as it can cause yellowing and stiffness.

Silk garments possess natural resistance to soiling, making it advisable to minimize their washing frequency. For commonly used items like pillowcases and nightcaps, it is recommended to clean them approximately once every two weeks.
